Coaches

Martha Commander (Head Dive Coach)

Martha was a member of Avalon and a diver on the Avalon Dive Team for several years. She attended Virginia Tech where she was a member and cocaptain of the Swim and Dive Teams. She graduated from Tech in 1997 with a degree in Family and Child Development and is currently teaching second grade in the City of Richmond. Martha has coached several dive teams in the Richmond area including Salisbury, Midlothian, YMCA and CCV. She will be returning for her 6th year of coaching at Avalon.

Kenley Archer ( Assistant Dive Coach):

Kenley is a rising senior at JMU, majoring in Elementary Education. She was an Avalon diver for 11 years and is now in her 6th year coaching!

Rachel Shannon (Assistant Coach):

Rachel is a rising senior at the Governor's School. She was a diver at Granite Pool before coming to Avalon. This is her first year coaching at Avalon.

We invite anyone who has ever thought about diving to come out and try a couple of practices to see if you would like to join the team.  No experience is necessary; you only have to be able to swim to the side of the pool.
